Legal Requirement

The Registered Employment Agreement ‘REA’(Construction Industry Pensions Assurance & Sick Pay) was registered in the Register of Employment Agreements (Labour Court) on the 7th March 1969 and updated by Variation Order on the 19 May 2006. This REA legally requires all construction employers to register their workers (i.e. all crafts, trades, construction workers etc) between the ages of 20 and 65 in a compliant Pension Scheme and to deduct the weekly contribution on their behalf. This is irrespective of whether or not the employer is a member of the Construction Industry Federation. In cases of dispute as to the applicability of the REA, the Labour Court has the final decision.
